Genesis 49:1, The future’s so bright…

“Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.

My son Erik was born with a “lazy eye”. Mali and I took him to a specialist at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver. I remember the doctor saying “Erik is 6yrs old. We don’t usually see much success in correcting this after 18 months of age”.  Mali and I were very discouraged and returned to our chapel family to ask for prayer. At Erik’s final checkup Dr. Mason was nearly speechless. He referred to Erik’s vision as “stereophonic”…basically better than traditional 20/20 vision. He said “only God can do this”.

It’s not surprising that I’m good about telling my children about God’s past faithfulness. It’s undeniable and historically verifiable. On the other hand, I’m far more tentative when talking about God’s future faithfulness. Maybe I’ve read too much of David Hume…who says there is no connection between the past and the future.

Actually, there is…it’s called GOD. On that basis I should be able to proclaim God’s future faithfulness with confidence and specificity, just like Jacob did.

Live boldly out there today…
