Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Psalm 51:1
One of the most deadly mistakes we make is thinking God is compelled to love and forgive us because we work so diligently at trying to be good.
I hear it all the time...
God's mercy is never about us It is always about God. And, one of the blessings in growing old is we begin to recognize this is a good thing. As I look back on a long life of trying to be "good" for God I see a record of failure time and again. If it weren't for God's unfailing love my relationship with Him would have died years ago.
So, I'm settled. I will let God be God...loving me mercifully...and I will be content humbly asking Him to do it again each morning. Remember...He's not like us!

"I think..."
But, to the wicked, God says "what right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You thought I was altogether like you". Psalm 50:16, 21
The sobering reality is...when people get God's word so wrong it's not intentional. It's what makes sense to them so it must make sense to God. After all, smart people agree. Right?
Wrong! Before we can ever understand scripture properly we must realize God doesn't think like us. We must first seek the mind of God and then seek the meaning of His word.
Remember...He's not like us!
