After Yahweh established requirements for His Tabernacle, He declared His expectations for how the Israelites might expiate the consequences of their sin. The first seven chapters of Leviticus outlines a series of five required offerings. Burnt offering; Grain offering; Fellowship offering; Sin offering; Guilt offering. The instructions were detailed and complex but...this is what God required.
I encourage you to read these chapters. You will get the sense that making satisfactory atonement was a full time job...at significant expense. You will want to ask "why?" But you will miss the point.
God is God...
Then, I encourage you to consider an alternative to these requirements...Jesus. His cousin, John the Baptist, referred to Jesus as "the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world". Hebrews 10:14 reminds us "for by one offering He has perfected, forever, them that are sanctified". The death of Christ satisfied all seven chapters in Leviticus. There remains no more sacrifice for sin.
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead...you will be saved". (Romans 10:9, 10) Far less complicated for you and I, but no less costly...all paid by Jesus. No less time consuming but, not time spent earning our salvation. Time spent celebrating and declaring our salvation.
We all need to satisfy God's demand for atonement. We can wallow unsuccessfully in Leviticus or we can rest assuredly in Jesus
Live boldly out there today...
