Genesis 47:27, Riding the storm out…

“Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.

Joseph was a “Venture Capitalist”. He found depressed property and bought it. He then turned around and rented it to the original owners in the form of a 20% tax. These weren’t hostile takeovers. The people were so desperate they asked Joseph to do it. Joseph was a shrewd businessman. Just in case we assume he was a republican, we should notice that he bought all the property for the government! (Ooops!). It might just prove God is a democrat.

But…I digress.

This precedes a narrative of how the Israelites settled in Egypt. Somehow, in this environment of desperation, the Israelites flourished. They actually acquired property rather than selling it off. Why should we be surprised? These were God’s chosen people…with whom He promised to accompany to Egypt.

Our circumstances may appear tenuous. Our houses may be worth less than we owe on them. We may be looking for work. We may not be financially prepared for retirement. Listen…we are God’s people. God is with us. Don’t look around, look up!

Live boldly out there today…
