 Don’t Ask Why

In those sacred pages where the heavens call your name,

Cynics keep on searchin’, playin’ their doubt-filled game,

That old “why” keeps on burnin’, like a fire in your veins,

But you gotta trust the Word now, through the joy and through the pain.

God’s truth is like a highway, runnin’ straight into the light,

It believes, it receives you, holdin’ on with all its might.

Instead of “Why?” that clouds your mind and tears your spirit down,

Ask “What?”—what truth is God revealin’ when He turns your life around?

What steps of faith He’s callin’ you to walk into the flame,

What grace to give, what heavy sin you finally lay to shame.

What promise holds when thunder rolls and the night won’t let you go,

What life of joy is waitin’ there that only He can show.

Instead of “Why?” that breeds the unrest deep inside your soul,

Ask “When?”—when will His will come shinin’, makin’ broken things whole?

When does the seed of faith go deep and break through the hardened ground,

When comes the harvest, sweet and full, where heaven’s glory is found?

When mercy flows like a river wild in the middle of your fight,

When joy awakes and lifts you up into the mornin’ light.

Instead of “Why?” that stirs the doubt and leaves you cold and lost,

Ask “How?”—how does His love keep pourin’ out no matter what the cost?

How do you walk the road He walked, with footsteps sure and true,

How you yield that stubborn heart and learn to say “I do”?

How His strength shines in your weakness like a fire in the dark,

How perfect grace redeems it all and sets your soul apart.

Instead of “Why?” that leaves you wanderin’ blind along the way,

Ask “Where?”—where does His mercy meet you at the end of the day?

Where lies the cross that breaks your chains and sets your spirit free,

Where flows the stream that heals the sea and calms the storm in me?

Where stands the throne of sovereign grace callin’ through the fight,

Where your weary soul finds restin’ place in the glow of heaven’s light.

Instead of “Why?” that blinds the eyes and chains the searchin’ soul,

Ask “Who?—who makes the broken pieces finally feel whole?

Who holds the stars and calms the storm with just a single word,

Who loved you first, came down in flesh, and walked where you have hurt?

Who is the Way, the Truth, the Life, the only hope that’s real,

Who turns your mourning into singin’—yeah, He makes the wounded heal.

So let it roll, let it roll, lay those questions down tonight…

Don’t ask why, just trust the Word and it’ll make everything right.

Like a heartbeat drummin’ louder, feel it comin’ over you,

Don’t ask why—ask what, ask when, ask how, ask who!

I can’t fight this feelin’ anymore… take me home, Lord, take me home.
