John 19:32-37
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.”And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”
😇 So…here it is…we are told 28 prophecies were fulfilled on Calvary. Christianity.com reminds us…When God sent the last plague on the Egyptians, the death of the firstborn, He commanded the Israelites to sacrifice the Passover lamb and smear its blood over their doorways. In this way, the destroyer would pass over the houses of the Israelites, sparing them from death (Exodus 12). Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the Passover Lamb, who was sacrificed to cover the sins of the world (1 Corinthians 5:7; 1 Peter 1:19). Think about this; what took place once…in “time and space”…deliverance from death, and commemorated every year since, took place “for time and eternity” on Calvary.
Now, if you were a Hebrew father and didn’t believe blood on your doorpost had any value your firstborn would have died. Likewise, if we don’t believe the blood of Jesus has redemptive power, we will die in our sin. But, “There is now, literally, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).”
🙏🏼 Lord, God…my life was hanging in the balance, the Angel of Death was patiently waiting to capture my soul when I’d die. But now, he sees only the blood of Jesus and will pass over me. What a miracle! What a blessing! I thank you for the sacrifice of your Son on my behalf. I offer myself today, to be your messenger to a lost world. Give me humility, grace and wisdom..to know when, where and to whom I might share your mercy today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
