Acts 9:32-35, Peter Heals Aeneas

32While Peter was traveling from place to place, he visited the Lord's followers who lived in the town of Lydda. 33There he met a man named Aeneas, who for eight years had been sick in bed and could not move. 34Peter said to Aeneas, "Jesus Christ has healed you! Get up and make up your bed."  Right away he stood up. 35Many people in the towns of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas and became followers of the Lord.

I remember running an exercise at Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany. One of our team laid on a hallway floor and I yelled "man down!". We waited to see the response. In no time, several heads peered out of offices and glanced at the body on the floor. They hemmed and hawed and talked about what to do, but did nothing. It turned out none of them knew how to perform CPR. Oh yeah...it was the chaplain section...

Lesson learned: Do not pass out at the chaplain's office!

Here's the stark reality...there was an entire community of believers in Lydda (modern day Lod) and a man who had been sick for eight years. When do you suppose somebody was going to do something? Never? I'm sure it wasn't for a lack of concern...just a lack of knowledge. They had no idea what could be accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit. If Peter had not come along the man would still be sick!

I suggest the Body of Christ is full of Lyddians, but has very few Peters.I know what the church needs most, its just that being a Peter takes so much reliance on God. That's a huge sticking point for many of us.

So...are we Lyddians...or Peters? The Holy Spirit has been given for a purpose. Let's put him to use.

Live boldly out there today...
